New York City HDR Photography

Below are High Dynamic Range (HDR) photographs from our latest trip into New York City during Fleet Week 2011.

The Flat Iron Building was one of the first "Sky Scrapers" in NY and is located on Broadway at East 22nd Street in the Flat Iron District of Manhattan. The building was built in 1902 and designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham. All of the Flat Iron Photographs were made at about 630 AM Saturday morning. I had to get there early since any later in the day their would be too much foot and vehicle traffic to make a good HDR.

The night time skyline shots were taken from a hotel on 26th St from our room on the 23rd floor. When we arrived in the room I noticed the huge bay window and thought wow, what a great picture this would make. I went over to open the window, but it would only open about 3" because the hotel had bolted a stopper in the window track apparently to stop anyone from jumping. No good. I needed the window to open all the way. The next day we ran out to a hardware store to buy some tools to remove the stopper. Much better. Note: We did replace the stopper and bolt before checkout.
